Job Description

Do you have a passion for working to achieve better outcomes with and for Māori? Do you have experience and knowledge of the disability sector?


Disability Support Services (DSS) within the Ministry of Health is looking for a Senior Advisor, Māori to support the ongoing development of disability support services to Māori disabled and their whanau.


Sitting within the DSS, Information and Advice team you will provide subject matter expertise to support quality advice based on a deep understanding of Te Ao Māori as it relates to disability supports. You will provide a focus on Māori models of support and how they will best meet the needs of Māori disabled. You will also be able to demonstrate strong relationship management skills with proven experience in stakeholder management. You will also possess excellent written and oral communication skills.  


As Senior Advisor, Maori you will have responsibility for:


  • Supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the Māori Disability Action Plan – Whāia te ao Mārama. 
  • Providing leadership to DSS to further improve access for Māori to disability supports across New Zealand.


This position would suit someone who is passionate about making a difference to our community and would like the opportunity to work for a service that engages well with the disability sector at a time of significant change.You will be part of a small team of advisors and analysts who support the work of DSS in its provision of disability support services nationally.
