The Ministry of Health is the Government's principal advisor on health and disability policy.  Our job is to protect the health of New Zealanders and, through leadership of the health and disability system, we help New Zealanders to live well, stay well and get well.  We work with the health and disability sector to manage a programme of work that supports the Government's priorities.


We are looking to recruit a Financial Accountant to join our exciting Finance and Systems team!


This is a fantastic opportunity to use your skills in a vital role helping the Ministry of Health meet its reporting and regulatory obligations.


As the Financial Accountant you will use your technical accounting knowledge and skills to play a key role in performing financial accounting and Treasury reporting functions, ledger reconciliations, cash management, fixed assets register maintenance and filing tax returns.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Suitable qualifications – Chartered Accountant New Zealand or equivalent

  • Strong technical accounting skills

  • Relevant work experience in a financial accounting role

  • A good understanding of cash-flow management principles

  • Experience with public sector accounting, CFISNet reporting and an understanding of the Public Finance Act will be an advantage

  • Experience in preparing and filing of GST and FBT returns

  • Experience with maintaining the fixed assets register

  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel

  • Strong attribute towards detail and accuracy

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
