We have an exciting opportunity for a Programme Lead to join us on a fixed term basis, playing a critical role in the delivery of some of the Ministry's key priorities.

This role needs to ensure the provision of thoughtful, expert and relevant advice; leading and providing oversight of a broad range of the Ministry's priority projects.  You will be setting the parameters and direction of the Strategy and Policy driven components of this critical work, providing feedback and quality control, keeping the momentum, managing risks, and representing the projects to the sector and to our Executive Leadership team.

You will be responsible for taking ownership of the team's work and being accountable for outputs, providing intensive on-the-job direction, coaching and quality assurance to staff and building and managing key relationships within and external to the Ministry.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven ability to influence others at a senior level in order to achieve outcomes impacting on the organisation, and strong intellectual leadership capabilities in policy development with an ability to draw on a range of frameworks and analytical methods

  • Be a highly experienced, highly motivated self-starter, who is looking to work in a results focused environment which requires agility, flexibility and confidence working with ambiguity

  • Proven experience in working in a large government agency to an Executive Leadership Team on key priority projects

  • Strong intellectual leadership capabilities in policy development with an ability to draw on a range of frameworks and analytical methods

  • Substantial experience in leading complex pieces of policy work or projects and the management of staff. Experience of working in a matrix/agile project management environment would be highly desirable.

  • Importantly, you will be able to manoeuvre through complex political situations effectively and be sensitive to how people and organisations function

  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and in plain language to a variety of audiences

  • A relevant tertiary or other relevant education preferably in health, social science, politics or policy

This is a full time fixed term role based in Wellington.
