(Palmerston North based fixed term position for two years)

We are implementing a prototype of a transformed disability support system in MidCentral DHB area from 1 October 2018. The aim of the prototype is to provide disabled people and whānau with more options and greater decision making over their support and their lives.

We are looking for an exceptional person who is committed to disability rights, an expert in safeguarding and supported decision making, and has excellent relationship skills.


The role of the Network Builder is to support Connectors / Kaitūhono to work with disabled people and whānau to expand their networks and establish arrangements for supported decision making.


The successful candidate will:

  • be able to describe the Enabling Good Lives vision and principles and how they apply these in their practice

  • be committed to implementing a Disability Rights approach

  • have a good understanding of Human Rights and the Treaty of Waitangi

  • be able to build and maintain trusting relationships with a diverse range of disabled people and whānau peer networks

  • have practical experience of working with disabled people and whānau to put safeguards in place and protect people from abuse so disabled people can take opportunities without being at a greater risk than other people

  • understand the theory and be able to provide practical examples of putting supported decision making arrangements in place.


This position is a fixed term role until June 2020 and could be a secondment from the public sector.
