Vacancy on the Ethics Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology

The Ethics Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology (ECART) is established under the Human Assisted Reproductive Technology (HART) Act 2004.  ECART's role is to consider, determine and review applications for assisted reproductive procedures and human reproductive research in New Zealand.

On behalf of Hon David Clark, Minister of Health, the Ministry of Health is seeking nominations/applications for a non-lay member with expertise in human assisted reproductive procedures.

To be considered for this membership role you will be asked to demonstrate the expertise you have within your chosen field, and how this can be used to uphold the guiding principles in ethics review of applications.  

 

Preferred skills for this role include

  • knowledge of the HART Act 2004 and its guiding principles for ECART

  • an ability to apply legislation and regulations in ethics review of applications

  • an ability to work objectively across a range of relevant perspectives and not adopt a narrow advocacy position

  • an ability to demonstrate open and responsive communication skills with an ability to reach consensus when different points of view are shared

  • an understanding of the needs, values and beliefs of Maori and their application to ethics review

  • knowledge of bioethics principles and/or relevant disciplines.

 

 

The Committee meets every two months in either Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. Applicants from across the country are welcome to apply; however please be aware that you will be expected to travel for this role

You must be a New Zealand resident and reside in New Zealand in order to be considered for the role. Please note that core public servants are also generally not considered for this role.
