Senior Advisor Quality – National Screening Unit


The National Screening Unit is entering an exciting period with new programmes, such as the National Bowel Screening Programme (NBSP) being implemented while other existing programmes are undergoing significant developments. The National Screening Unit (NSU) is responsible for the national coordination of three important cancer screening programmes (breast, cervical and bowel cancers) and three antenatal and newborn screening programmes and quality initiatives  (hearing, newborn metabolic conditions and antenatal screening).


As the Senior Advisor Quality you will play a pivotal role in the designing and supporting the quality function of the NSU. You will be responsible for leading, supporting and working collaboratively with screening providers in the health sector to support an effective approach to quality that ensures the safety of the screening programme. The role will work closely with other clinical and technical experts and teams in the NSU to support an integrated and consistent approach to quality and quality systems for all screening programmes.


The initial focus of this role will be on supporting the quality requirements of the NBSP, including finalising the interim clinical guidelines and quality standards to be used by the DHBs; and other contracted providers, provide advice on quality systems, assurance and improvement supporting the implementation of the NBPS.


To excel in this role you will have:

  • a strong customer focused approach with a can do approach;

  • understanding of New Zealand Health Sector;

  • experience in quality systems and quality improvement in a health care setting

  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills

  • strong written and oral communication skills,

  • a relevant tertiary qualification,

  • a keen eye for detail and passion for delivering a quality product when its needed;

  • Be agile in your approach and able to move between tasks and projects

You must demonstrate an understanding and awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi, and understand the role of the Ministry and health sector in reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes for Māori.
