We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters. The COVID-19 Strategy, Legislation and Royal Commission Group leads the health system contribution to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVID-19 Lessons to reflect and learn from the COVID-19 response. Our focus is to progress a forward-looking work programme to develop the legislation needed to better equip New Zealand for future pandemics and keep our communities safe.
Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
You will lead policy development, draft documents, and provide expert advice. You will oversee the entire policy process, including problem definition, option assessment, and impact analysis.
Responsibilities for the role include:
- playing a critical role in quality assurance;
- leading key projects;
- ensuring high-quality policy advice are maintained;
- collaborating with stakeholders; and
- upholding equity and Treaty of Waitangi obligations.
You will work with the team to promote the COVID-19 strategic framework across all-of-government as well as establish a shared understanding of how we respond to a future pandemic. We will do this by reflecting on lessons learned that will help to inform the critical and essential changes that are required for the future to keep New Zealanders safe.

- Experience in developing policy across a broad range of complex issues
- Experience in designing work programmes and project planning
- Political nuance and an understanding of the issues important to the government of the day
- Comfortable communicating ideas to a broad range of stakeholders and communities
- Quantitative and statistical modelling skills applied to policy analysis would be an advantage.
