At Manatū Hauora – Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.
The Strategy Group works on a range of instruments that set the medium to longer-term vision, overall direction, aims and objectives for the health and wellbeing of the people in New Zealand, the health sector and the areas of need within it. It sets high-level parameters for how the direction is achieved through long-term investment priorities and system levers and guides collective action towards the vision.
This role sits within the Strategy, Policy and Legislation directorate which is responsible for providing high quality policy advice to the Ministers and government to inform the decisions they make on the health portfolio at a system level.
Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
As Manager of the Health System Stewardship team, you will lead the development, planning and implementation of specific strategies, report on progress and results are achieved. You will also provide leadership and management for projects, working with direct reports to ensure work is well planned and includes taking strategic and tactical approaches to achieve results.
You'll lead the work programme of your team to ensure that the work they do has maximum impact. You will support your team on their development journeys, ensuring that they have opportunities to do work that's challenging, meaningful and helps them to grow as policy professionals.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
- Proven ability to lead system level policy advice that can lead to positive impact and shifts for the Health sector Experience in leading a team with senior staff and an ability to build and embed best practices for policy
- Demonstrable success in influencing, collaborating and brokering with challenging stakeholders
- Solid understanding of the machinery of government and know how to collaborate to get things done
- Strong communication skills with an ability to make the complex simple
- Experience working with Māori on policy, service design, engagement or governance is highly desirable and working with the diversity of the disability community is highly valued.
- Leading and demonstrating behaviours and values of public service
- Tertiary qualification in a health or relevant field and/or equivalent experience and significant policy experience
