Te Aho o Te Kahu (Cancer Control Agency) is a departmental agency hosted by the Ministry of Health to provide national leadership for and oversight of cancer control.
The Agency takes a whole-of-system focus on preventing and managing cancer and oversees system-wide prioritisation and coordination of cancer care in New Zealand. It is accountable for ensuring transparency of progress towards the goals and outcomes in the National Cancer Action Plan.
The Agency is equity-led, knowledge-driven, person/whānau-centred and outcomes focused.
The Data and Analytics team is responsible for leading the implementation of an integrated approach to collect, analyse, and communicate high quality cancer data to drive planning, quality improvement, and monitoring activities across the cancer sector. As with all teams, this integrated approach will have a focus on equity.
Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
As the Senior Biostatistician, you will provide critical epidemiology and statistical expertise to support the D&A programme of work, as well as to the other workstreams within Te Aho o Te Kahu as required.
Furthermore, you will provide technical biostatistical leadership, guidance and input to study design, statistical methods, data analysis, as well as assist in drafting and revising reports.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in biostatistics
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams to contribute to the development of research questions, study designs and data analysis and interpretation.
- Proficiency in developing advanced statistical techniques and applying them to inform policy and performance/quality improvement initiatives.
- Advanced skills in statistical software (e.g. R, STATA or Python) for data analysis, simulation and modelling.
- Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating the ability to translate complex statistical findings into clear and impactful publication.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills. Particularly the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and in plain language to a variety of audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to lead and mentor other team members, guiding them in best practices for data analysis and statistics methodology.
- An understanding of Māori tikanga and kawa and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
