At Manatū Hauora – Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.
The Health Surveys team is responsible for delivering the New Zealand Health Survey (Health Survey), a key source of information about the health and wellbeing of people in Aotearoa.
Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
You will lead the analysis and provide statistical expertise for the Health Survey and various research projects. You will produce outputs and insights from the Health Survey, such as data extracts, confidential datasets, online tools and reports. Managing survey datasets, including data cleaning, quality assurance, version control and documentation, will also be part of your responsibilities.
You'll offer consistent and high-quality analytics, advice, and direction to the team, while also enhancing their skills through coaching and mentoring. Presenting survey results in a meaningful way, building collaborative relationships, leading process improvement, and ensuring equity and Treaty of Waitangi obligations are met are all integral aspects of your role. Your leadership will drive effective implementation and strategic planning across internal and external stakeholders.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
- Advanced proficiency in complex statistical analysis of survey data, with expertise in statistical programming languages, preferably R.
- A tertiary qualification in statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, data science, computer science, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with survey methodology, encompassing sample design, weighting, and data linkage.
- Rapid adaptability to comprehend novel and intricate concepts and domains, coupled with an analytical and inquisitive mindset that drives probing inquiries into underlying information.
- Strong relationship-building skills, enabling collaborative work across all levels within a diverse multi-disciplinary organisation.
