Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
You will provide high-level advice and technical leadership on health sector workforce regulation, education, and training. Your expertise will help ensure a robust monitoring framework that informs strategic workforce planning and decision-making at the highest levels, including the Minister, the Director-General, and key sector stakeholders.
You will lead monitoring efforts, assess risks, and provide high-quality insights that drive improvements across the health workforce regulatory and education landscape. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will contribute to the development of workforce strategies and provide assurance on regulatory authority performance.
- Strategic Workforce Regulation Oversight – Maintain a whole-of-sector view of workforce regulation, training, and education, identifying risks and opportunities to enhance regulatory frameworks.
- High-Quality Advisory and Reporting – Provide expert, evidence-based advice to Ministers and key stakeholders on workforce regulation issues, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration – Build strong relationships across the health sector, government agencies, and regulatory bodies to drive alignment and shared objectives.
- Leadership and Analytical Expertise – Lead analytical work on workforce regulation, mentoring colleagues and ensuring robust use of data to support decision-making.
- Policy Development and Ministerial Support – Contribute to workforce strategy development, provide input into Cabinet papers, and support ministerial correspondence and reporting.

- Expert understanding of the key challenges in workforce regulation, training, education, risks, and issues, within the health sector.
- Significant experience in providing advice to Ministers and driving work programmes to ensure delivery of work is to the expected quality
- Strong experience in influencing people, leading work programmes, change management and facilitation, coaching and mentoring staff.
- Strong relationship management skills and experience in engaging with a range of sector groups and agencies.
- Ability to engage with issues through both a strategic and operational lens, ensuring that short-term decisions align with longer-term direction.

The Workforce Monitoring Team delivers on its why through employment relations assurance and workforce reporting to ensure an understanding of employment relations in the health sector, workforce risks, technical leadership and evidence based high-quality strategic advice to the Minister, sector, Director-General, and other business units within the Ministry.
