Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

Te Aho o Te Kahu was established in December 2019 to provide national leadership and oversight for cancer control as well as system-wide prioritisation and coordination of cancer care in Aotearoa.  The Agency has a key role in driving the system change needed to achieve the ambitious goals set out in the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019-2029.

Ko tōu ake mahi – What You'll Do

The Principal Clinical Advisor will be located in the Knowledge Translation and Implementation team of Te Aho o Te Kahu and will be responsible for providing high-quality strategic and operational advice, leadership, coordination, critical analysis and recommendations as part of the work programme.

Working closely with your team and other agency staff, you will identify linkages, overlaps and synergies with other relevant work programmes in Te Aho o Te Kahu, the Ministry of Health, and the sector.

Your cancer sector experience along with your exceptional communication and writing skills will be vital in providing clear, succinct, responsive and appropriate advice to your manager, the Chief Executive, Agency teams and external stakeholders.

You will support work within the Agency to deliver on the Government and Agency priorities and objectives, building collaborative and positive relationships across the Agency, Ministry of Health, wider health sector, government and other external stakeholders, ensuring all work meets Treaty obligations and reflects our priority of equity.

Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring

• Tertiary qualification in health and/or equivalent experience
• Experience in the cancer sector is essential
• Knowledge and experience of machinery of government and development of policy would be a benefit
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to write and talk about technical issues clearly
• Ability to interpret and understand complex data analysis to communicate trends and changes to different audiences 
• Ability to negotiate/communicate, influence and build trusted relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders, at all levels
• Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ability to apply its principles to day-to-day work
• Ability to analyse complex technical information to provide advice to a wide range of audiences
