The Health, Safety and Security (HSS) group supports the Ministry's managers and employees to put health, safety and security at the heart of everything they do.  We are made up of four teams – Performance Advice, Health and Safety and Emergency Management, Privacy and Security Policy and National Security Operations.  The group leads the development of HSS strategy and operational policy and are responsible for the design, development and deployment of programmes and initiatives that support and strengthen the Ministry's HSS culture.

The Senior Advisor Practice and Improvement reports to the Manager Security Practice.  In this role you will work with the Practice and Improvement team and the wider HSS Group to identify practice improvement opportunities and deliver professional, effective, relevant and fit-for-purpose Court Security training.  You will be responsible for the analysis, design and implementation of training and you will implement practices and procedures that ensure appropriate safety is maintained in training delivery, policies and procedures.  You will also be on the look-out for quick wins and any opportunity to lift the front-line's capability.

We are looking for someone with significant and relevant training management and delivery experience - preferably in a law enforcement, military or security environment.  We are about to launch a national recruitment campaign for front-line staff so it will be a busy and challenging start to this new role. 

We are looking for effective trainers with an eye for ways to improve existing practice and:

  • a National Certificate in Adult Education and Training (level 4) or relevant qualifications or equivalent knowledge and skills.
  • relevant knowledge, skills, and experience in the effective delivery of control and restraint, critical incident management, personal safety and empty hand techniques.
  • detailed knowledge of Personal Safety and Defensive Tactics, Critical Incident Management Training, Legislation Training and Procedures; Subject Matter Expert on Court Security Act 1999, CSO Induction training.
  • technical proficiency with training policies and procedures and a good working knowledge of training and education of learning theory, instructional design practices and educational evaluation.

We are also looking for someone who is able to travel nationally and who has the required interpersonal skills to engage with a wide range people with a mix of current skills and experience.

The expected starting salary for this role is between $75,000 and $90,000 - negotiable depending on what you bring to the role.
