Report Writing and Research Assistant

Waitangi Tribunal, Wellington

The Waitangi Tribunal Unit provides a comprehensive range of services to the Waitangi Tribunal, a permanent commission of inquiry that inquires into and reports on claims submitted by Māori under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.

We are looking for a hardworking and motivated person to join us as a Report Writing and Research Assistant. In this role, you will undertake a variety of editorial and research tasks to support the delivery of Waitangi Tribunal reports and commissioned research. This includes fact-checking and formatting of references and draft reports to agreed styles; proof-reading and ensuring accuracy of spelling and cross-referencing; finding, compiling and indexing of research data; image research and communications with right holders and obtaining permissions; assistance with mapping; and writing tasks as directed.

To be successful in this role, you will have an eye for detail and a high level of accuracy. You will know how to research in archives and libraries, work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, be well-organised, enjoy working on multiple projects at once, and work well under pressure. You will need to have a good knowledge of standard software packages such as Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel, and a familiarity with publishing software such as Adobe InDesign would be beneficial.

An understanding of, and commitment to, the work of the Waitangi Tribunal is essential and an understanding of te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori would be beneficial. A relevant tertiary qualification or significant progress towards one is required.

 

Salary range: $44,416-$60,092
