Principal Land Advisor, Office of Treaty Settlements

MOJ/1335235

  • You are a team player who would like to see the results of your work first-hand
  • You will be responsible for providing expert technical information
  • You will have extensive experience of Crown-owned land issues

At the Office of Treaty Settlements we're looking for talented and motivated people to join us as we negotiate the settlement of historical Treaty claims, build positive relationships between the Crown and Mäori and administer the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act.

To match this changing and challenging environment, we are looking for hard working, talented and motivated people to join us as we negotiate settlements of historical Treaty claims and build positive relationships between the Crown and Māori.   If you're a team player who would like to see the results of your work first-hand, the Office of Treaty Settlements, based in Wellington, invites you to apply for the position of Principal Land Advisor.

As a Principal Land Advisor, you'll be responsible for providing expert technical information and support on complex land matters to teams negotiating Treaty settlements. You will be providing guidance to help the land team resolve difficult issues relating to land potentially to be used in treaty settlements.  You will be able to critically analyse proposed deeds of settlement and draft legislation to ensure settlements can be legally implemented.  You will develop and maintain highly effective, co-operative relationships with internal and external groups and individuals.  You will contribute to our team effectiveness and performance and will have experience of coaching and mentoring.

To succeed in this role, you will have extensive experience of Crown-owned land issues and related legislation and deed of settlement drafting.  You'll also relate well to a wide range of people and work effectively both on your own and in a team.  Project management experience and knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi are desirable.  Applicants with a relevant tertiary qualification are welcome to apply.

Salary range:  $106,686-$144,340

To apply, complete the application form, attaching your CV and cover letter.  Applications close Friday 25 May 2018.
