About the team and the role

The Ministry of Justice is responsible for the delivery of justice services across courts and tribunals.  Our people are therefore supportive, friendly, customer-focussed and driven to provide the best service possible to the New Zealand public every day. 

The Operations Support team is (mostly) based at National Office responsible for providing support to our teams located in the District Court, Specialist Courts (Coroner's, Maori Land Court, Employment and Environment Courts) and 20+ Tribunals, Authorities and Committees across New Zealand, including the Waitangi Tribunal.  This support includes providing practical advice to staff dealing with general customer queries, co-ordinating business performance data for insights and reporting, maintaining systems, tools and databases used by court and tribunal staff, progressing key service improvement and legislative initiatives that support the Ministry's vision and strategy, developing robust briefings for Ministers and responding to official correspondence, such as, Official Information Act requests (OIAs), and Parliamentary questions (PQs).

The Team Manager plays a key role in enabling pragmatic support to our courts and tribunals.  The role is responsible for co-ordinating and overseeing multiple work programmes with your peers, ensuring that work is effectively prioritised and sequenced, leading the collaboration with key partners and stakeholders to progress the work.  The Team Manager is an advocate for continuous improvement and standardisation where practicable, leading the implementation of ‘quick fix' business and service improvement initiatives, embedding those initiatives within the operational processes of the courts and tribunals business, and maintaining business systems, databases and tools used by courts and tribunals every day.  The Team Manager is also responsible for building the team's capability, clarifying roles and responsibilities and maintaining high staff engagement to deliver quality operations support services.

Skills and experience:

You are an excellent and experienced people leader and a great communicator (both written and verbal) with a proven ability to engage and motivate teams to complete quality and timely operations support services every day.  You have a strong attention for detail and exceptional organisation skills with a proactive and friendly attitude.  You are energetic, can work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines and are flexible, calm and resilient.  Your experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and your ability to be agile in response to changing priorities and needs will be crucial in this role.
