Advisor, Publishing

Permanent position preferably based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) though we'll be flexible on location for the right candidate (Auckland or Christchurch).

 

Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role

We are looking for enthusiastic and diligent people to join the Judicial Libraries team as Publishing Advisors. You will be responsible for the publication of judicial decisions to public access sites used by the judiciary, Ministry staff, the legal profession and the general public. As well as ensuring Courts and Tribunals decisions comply with suppression and privacy laws, you will also be involved in editing information and updates aimed at the judiciary and courts staff.

Although a law degree is preferred for this position, consideration will also be given to candidates with relevant skills and knowledge.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring Senior Courts decisions comply with suppression and privacy laws before publication
  • Amending, redacting, anonymising and publishing tribunals decisions to comply with relevant policies and laws according to their jurisdiction
  • Editing case law and legislation updates aimed at the judiciary
  • Involvement in team projects, including the development of a publishing knowledge base

 

He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience

You will need:

  • An excellent eye for detail
  • A high level of literacy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Some familiarity with Te Reo Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Strong database management skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Resilience – there are times when you will be working on sensitive cases
  • To be committed to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • To bring an understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori me onā tikanga

Preferably you will have:

  • A law degree
  • Previous experience in legal publishing, or knowledge of suppression and media law

Your role in the Judicial Libraries team sits within the National Service Delivery business unit and Operations and Service Delivery group.  The purpose of the Operations and Service Delivery group is to provide access to justice through the courts and related services. OSD is responsible for all the Ministry's operational services to customers including the courts and centralised national services.

Salary range per annum: $63,019 to $82,295. Starting salary of the successful candidate(s) will be based on their skills and experience.
