Advisor, Implementation
Full-time, fixed term position for 12 months
Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role
We are seeking an Advisor to join our Implementation team in the Commissioning and Service Improvement (CSI) unit. In CSI, we work to support the delivery of positive change in the justice system for a safe and fair Aotearoa.
The breadth of our work and the impact it has will give you lots of variety and challenge and will give you a sense of making a genuine difference to the lives of everyday kiwis.
This is a varied role and involves interpreting legislation, investigating how any changes will impact the Ministry, talking to and working with staff across the Ministry, preparing advice around the potential impacts of legislative changes and working to implement those changes.
You can expect to regularly draft advice to the judiciary, communicate changes to staff throughout the Ministry, draft updates for knowledge bases, and work with ICT and business groups to update systems where necessary. There will also be opportunities to get involved in larger projects where the legislative change is more complex or is expected to have a significant impact on the Ministry.
He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone with:
- A good understanding of the justice sector. If you have direct experience working in the court or tribunal environment, then that would be a real advantage
- Some knowledge of, and experience in project management disciplines, tools and activities
- An awareness of parliament's legislative change process
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex messages clearly, simply and concisely
- A can-do attitude, and the ability to independently complete allocated project activities
- Have an understanding and appreciation of cultural issues and concerns in particular Tikanga Maori
- Bring a working knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the implications of these for the work of Te Tāhū o te Ture – Ministry of Justice

The Implementation team works closely with the Ministry's Policy Group to implement policy and legislative changes agreed by Parliament. We work on a range of different issues that impact how NZ justice services operate day to day, and how participants experience the justice system. The mahi we do has a big impact on how people experience our justice system, often at one of the most vulnerable times of their lives.
Just some of the legislation the team is currently scoping or working to implement includes the Three Strikes Legislation Repeal Bill, Sexual Violence Legislation Act, the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Amendment Bill, the Retail Payments System Bill and many more.

Salary Range: The appointing salary for this role will be between $63,019 and $82,295 based on skills and experience.
