Judicial Publications Officer – Fixed-term position to 30 June 2023
Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role
The Chief District Court Judge's Chambers are currently seeking a Judicial Publications Officer to join our Communications and Publishing team headed by the Manager, Judicial Communications and Publishing. This important work helps provide the media, legal profession and general public with a better understanding of how judgments are reached, including the legislative and legal constraints upon a Judge's decision-making.
Duties
- Screen, select, anonymise Criminal, Civil, Family Court and Youth Court Judgments;
- Provide oversight/checks and balances on the work conducted by your colleagues;
- Write summaries to provide contextualisation of judgments;
- Post judgments, summaries, and other publications to the District Court of New Zealand website;
- Create content for the website and social media;
- Database maintenance;
- Contribute ideas and solutions on new initiatives and projects.
He pūkenga tou/Skills and experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with your colleagues;
- A legal qualification is a requirement of this position;
- Good understanding of legal principles, including statutory prohibitions on publications or the ability to quickly grasp the legislative requirements around judgment publication;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Exceptional attention to detail;
- Be proactive with the ability to pick up new concepts and working processes;
- Experience/knowledge in content creation and web publishing would be advantageous;
- Be committed to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Salary Range: The appointing salary for this role will be between $63,019 and $82,295 based on skills and experience.
