We have mulitiple opportunities avaliable including permanent and 2 x fixed term (until July 2026 and November 2026).
To be successful in this role you need to have superb writing skills, exceptional communication skills, an understanding of the Machinery of Government, a sophisticated risk radar, and the ability to be resilient and work as part of a team. You must be unafraid to speak with people in person and exceptionally well organised at managing your time.
As an Advisor, Ministerial Correspondence, you will be responsible for providing timely, comprehensive, and tailored Ministerial services, including the release of information to Ministers and Parliament, and responses to Parliamentary, participant, and public requests for information. This includes managing, processing, and drafting responses to requests for information and Ministerial correspondence. You will work collaboratively with employees across the Ministry to ensure that responses meet statutory requirements, align to publicly available information, and are issued within relevant timeframes. You will also work with other members of the team to identify and manage the response to complex and sensitive communications requests.
This will be a busy and challenging role, so will require someone who is resilient, flexible, calm and can multi-task. You will be joining a supportive and enthusiastic team who have a genuine interest in sharing knowledge and supporting one another in an enjoyable, busy and sometimes challenging environment.
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
Our ideal candidates will have:
- At least one year of experience as an advisor working in a Ministerials or correspondence team
- Strong organisational and coordination skills
- Excellent prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple items of work at one time
- Strong customer focus
- The ability to build and maintain positive in-person stakeholder relationships and effective networks
- Superior oral communication and writing skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Solid understanding of public sector arrangements and processes
- Energy to thrive in a fast paced and time bound environment.

At Te Tāhū o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice, we're committed to strengthening people's trust in the law of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
The positions report to the Team Leader in the Ministerial Services team, which is part of the wider Communications team at the Ministry of Justice.
The Ministerial Services team oversees and drafts responses to official correspondence, including Official Information Act and Privacy Act requests, Ministerial correspondence, Parliamentary questions and other pieces of correspondence for the Ministry.
Our team works from the Justice Centre in Thorndon, Wellington. Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate can expect to primarily be office-based. The role is not suitable for remote working.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary will be between $73,634 and $100,846 based on skills and experience.
