Court Registry Officer at NZ Ministry of Justice, Wellington City

Supreme Court of New Zealand | Te Kōti Mana Nui o Aotearoa

Work in a team where you'll support the day-to-day operations of the Supreme Court by managing appeals from other court decisions, organising and running court hearings, working with different customers across the court business and supporting new initiatives designed to give the court greater transparency.  

  • Work with a range of stakeholders who interact with the court.
  • Deliver a service with high accuracy and professionalism.
  • Exercise Deputy Registrar powers.

 

Te Haeata/The Opportunity

As a Court Registry Officer, you will work with a team responsible for the successful operation of the Court. You will liaise with multiple stakeholders including Members of the Judiciary and support staff, other court registries, defendants, family members, Lawyers, and other government agencies. You will need to be able to communicate confidently with Judges within the courtroom and their chambers, as well as other members of the judiciary.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Court Taking – this is the organisation of court hearings and facilitating the running of the court. This includes introducing Judges (in English and Te Reo Maori), working closely with judges, lawyers, media and interested parties in the courtroom, using technology to provide greater access to the courtroom and general administration of the court.
  • Customer Service -. You will work to answer customer queries via face to face, phone or email interactions.
  • Case Management – taking responsibility for ensuring that the Judiciary and case parties have all the information they need. Ensuring the formal court record for all cases is accurate and up to date, proactively managing all events or activity on each case ensuring court timetables are adhered to .The completion of the Appeal Management System (AMS) data base for every case, which involves data entry.

To be successful, you will need to be:

  • Able to work using high levels of initiative  – you'll be motivated to get things done. You will be able to take new ideas and make them happen and act at times without specific direction.
  • Detail orientated and observant – attention to detail essential. The court has many different processes. Case information and publicly available information needs to be accurate.
  • Self-aware – you'll understand our customers and will be confident working across a range of situations.
  • Multi-task – you'll understand that some of our processes are repetitive, but you'll be able to manage conflicting priorities and move from one task to another quickly.
  • Willing to learn – legislation and processes in the courts is always changing and you will be able to adapt and respond to feedback.
  • Resilience – there are times when working in the courts, you will be working on sensitive cases and sometimes at high volume or complexity.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The remuneration band for this role is $60,729 to $80,794, based on skills and experience.
