Te Haeata/The Opportunity

This Fixed Term, Full Time role acts as a key support to the business lead for Pātaka Whenua and provides Senior level technical/functional leadership across MLC strategic priorities to: 

• Deliver technical support to frontline staff.
• Identify, triage, prioritise and implement urgent technology fixes.
• Scope, prioritise and implement longer term technology fixes and future enhancements.
• Identify, develop, and implement business process improvements.

As a Puna Kōrero Matua you will provide specialist advice, apply proven methodology and help implement business improvements that enhance efficient and effective customer-centric services. You will apply your board and in-depth knowledge of business processes and technology solutions to lead and support the planning and delivery of activities and improvements.

As a member of Te Tiratū you will collaborate with teams from across the Ministry to manage, plan and deliver projects, improvement initiatives and business-as-usual process and procedure fixes that support Te Kooti Whenua Māori to deliver consistent services to customers.

As Puna Kōrero Matua you will be responsible for leading and supporting work that contributes to transformation, often with other advisors and analysts that you will mentor, guide, and coach.

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience

The role of the Māori Land Court as a people's court is unique and if you believe you can bring value to the work of the court, we will support you to succeed.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Great organisational skills and a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
• Strong demonstrable research skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in a high-paced environment where you are required to respond to changing needs and priorities to manage large workloads.
• Experience working with other business units, service providers and key stakeholders.
• Deep understanding of Māori Land Court business processes and the IT solution Pātaka Whenua.
• A good general knowledge of, and respect for, tikanga Māori and competence in, or a willingness to become competent in, Te Reo Māori.
• Deep commitment to and evidence of putting the Treaty of Waitangi at the centre of decision-making and knowledge of Crown-Māori relationships.
• Experience leading in a project environment, leading complex projects to successful completion.
• Ability to see and convey the big picture while knowing how to achieve long term change.
• Experience providing intellectual and functional leadership across and within organisations, including experience mentoring and developing junior staff and peers.
• Work within a well-established and vibrant team alongside technical experts and you'll have attributes of being flexible, calm and resilient.

We are a Court of record. Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (our Act) recognises the significance of Māori land as taonga tuku iho of special significance to Māori. Our role is to provide a Court service for owners of whenua Māori, their whānau and their hapū.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The appointing salary for this role will be between $99,208 and $127,683 and will be based on skills and experience.

In addition, there is a Reo Māori allowance (from $1,000 up to $3,200). This is dependent on certification such as completion of an approved assessment with Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori Level Finder Examination.
