At the Māori Land Court, the Court record is a taonga tuku iho. As a Pae Tukutuku, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity, quality and accessibility of that record while supporting owners, whānau and hapū through Court processes.
This is a unique and rewarding role that combines customer service, information management, research, case progression and courtroom support. Your work will help ensure high-quality information is available to support sound decision-making, timely outcomes and trusted Court services.
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
This is a permanent full-time Pae Tukutuku role based at the Hamilton Māori Land Court where you will provide information, education and advisory services relating to Māori land ownership, use and management. You will work closely with Court users, colleagues and the Judiciary to support the effective progression of applications and cases while maintaining the quality and integrity of Court information.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide information and guidance on Court processes, legislation and Māori land matters.
- Research Court records and analyse evidence to support applications and case progression.
- Prepare high-quality reports, submissions and recommendations for the Court.
- Maintain accurate and reliable information in Pātaka Whenua, ensuring exceptional data quality and record integrity.
- Monitor applications and help ensure their timely progression.
- Record and transcribe Court proceedings with precision and accuracy.
- Clerk Court hearings and provide judicial support services.
- Preserve the authenticity, quality and integrity of the Court record.
Deputy Registrar Opportunity
As your experience and capability develop, you may be appointed as a Deputy Registrar under Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993. In this capacity, you will exercise delegated statutory and quasi-judicial powers, support case progression, administer oaths and affirmations, and make decisions within prescribed legislative authority.
This provides a unique opportunity to develop specialist expertise and take on greater responsibility within a judicial environment.
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
We're looking for someone who is highly organised, analytical and committed to getting the details right.
You'll bring:

- Strong analytical skills and the ability to research, interpret and evaluate information.
- Sound judgement and confidence making well-reasoned decisions based on evidence and legislation.
- A strong focus on data quality, information integrity and continuous improvement.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- A customer-focused approach and the ability to build trusted relationships.
- The ability to understand and interpret legislation, policy and complex information.
- An understanding of Ngā Kaupapa Māori and a willingness to grow your knowledge of tikanga and te ao Māori.
Experience with digital workflow systems, records management, data quality, public sector processes or performance reporting will be an advantage. Competency in Te Reo Māori is also highly valued.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The remuneration band for this role is $60,729 to $80,794 – the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience.
