Are you passionate about building the capability of MPI's operational workforce across a wide range of legislative and technical topics?  


The Learning and Development Group at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is focused on developing and supporting our people so that they may achieve MPI priorities, and grow their careers.


We are looking for someone who brings experience in the application of legislation and operational practises across a range of technical and operational topics in a frontline role to join our team as a Learning Specialist.


You will have a key role in delivering training; both short courses and large residential programmes for the Operations Branch, along with wider MPI business groups as needed. Your experience and skills will enable you to deliver training solutions that are engaging, credible, and underpinned by a genuine enthusiasm to share your knowledge and expertise across the wide range of frontline roles.


You will work closely with other team members to develop both online and F2F training and contribute towards wider work priorities for the L&D Group.


You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with operational managers, staff and L&D colleagues.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong group presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to connect and build respectful and trusting relationships with colleagues and customers
  • Proven ability to deliver results in a timely manner


Responsibilities this position will have includes but not limited to:

  • Delivery across recruit officer and senior officer training programmes
  • Delivery of role specific training programmes for compliance officers and quarantine officers
  • Delivery of MPI administered legislation
  • Operational training including; operational planning, interviewing, evidence, case files.
  • Development of training materials to support workplace learning.
