The Intelligence, Planning & Coordination directorate of the Operations Branch is looking for a National Operations Planner to support MPIs critical business functions.  The Operational Planner role will be pivotal in supporting MPI business needs in preparation for significant events, to develop integrated and high quality advice for operational decision making.

 

 The Operational Planner will have a critical role within MPI to ensure all planning activities are undertaken using methodical planning processes and requires strong leadership across the organisation to ensure MPI has the capabilities to carry out immediate operational action in response to significant events.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, activating and facilitating responses and working with senior stakeholders on a range of business needs. We are looking for a self- starter who is a confident team player with excellent relationship skills and an ability to navigate through ambiguity and demonstrate strong leadership capabilities. To be successful in this role you will have;

  • Experience in a response type setting and/or operational centre or equivalent skills.
  • Understanding of the public sector and the machinery of government.
  • Experience that involves provision of advice, analysis, internal consultation and engagement, and interaction with decision makers.
  • An understanding / working knowledge  of the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS); Australian Interservice Incident Management System (AIIMS); National Incident Management System (NIMS); Incident Command System (ICS); or a similar comparable framework for emergency management.
  • Strong liaison and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills that support robust planning & the production of solid solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to think ahead and contribute effectively to the planning process;
  • Composure under pressure to ensure successful outcomes in response activities.
