18 month Fixed term / Secondment

  • Leverage your knowledge of project systems and help NZ deal with biosecurity risks
  • Join a small, expert, flexible team
  • Option to work 4 days or full time (hours flexible)

Are you an independent, self-starter looking for your next opportunity?  Are you passionate about maintaining best practice and support mechanisms?  Then come and join our Government Industry Agreement (GIA) Secretariat as our Project Coordinator.

About the Organisation

The GIA Partnership spans Government and a wide range of primary sector industry organisations committed to shared biosecurity decision making and funding. The GIA Secretariat is the corporate arm of GIA and supports the implementation and development of the partnership. It is operationally independent from MPI. More information is available on our website www.gia.org.nz.

About the Role

Your role will be to support the GIA Secretariat and project technical leads as they plan and deliver projects within their programmes of work. This role is jointly funded by a number of GIA partners (industry and government) and will report directly to GIA Secretariat Manager. Engagement with partner project representatives will be an integral part of this role.

Your main focus is to ensure the GIA projects are accurately monitored and tracked by maintaining the Work Programme status update reports.  You'll work with a range of Technical Leads to monitor project progress and reporting to their various councils.  As well as maintaining work programmes, responsibilities include coordinating project reporting, monitoring activities such as individual project's financial performance, and maintaining and updating financial spreadsheets.

While the role is self-managing, you'll be exposed to a wide range of delivery styles and teams and will need to be comfortable taking the lead. The role lends itself to building project manager capability and expertise, and as part of a small, flexible team, there is the opportunity to diversify your skills.

Skills and Experiences

You will thrive in this challenging and busy role while demonstrating your well-developed project coordination skills and your experience to make a difference to a significant strategic initiative.

You'll bring:

  • Excellent coordination and organisation skills
  • Experience working with a wide range of people
  • An ability to work to deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Skilled in MS Word and Excel
  • Process improvement skills and new ways of doing and seeing things
  • Experience presenting to Governance bodies
