We are looking for people to join the inshore fisheries team in the Ministry for Primary Industries in Auckland and/or Wellington as either a Fisheries Analyst or Senior Fisheries Analyst. We have both a permanent and 12 month fixed term opportunity.  The location of the fixed term position is more flexible and could also be based in either Napier or Dunedin.

Within the Fisheries Analyst/ Senior Fisheries Analyst role you will be working with a diverse range of stakeholders and technical experts to monitor and advance regional and national fisheries management initiatives including catch limit reviews, improvements to fishing rules and strategies to manage the environmental impacts of fishing.

You will have the opportunity to develop and lead pieces of work as well as work alongside a team of passionate individuals across New Zealand committed to ensuring sustainable fisheries resources for future generations.

The role is multi-disciplinary and we are interested in people with one of a range of tertiary qualifications including economics, law, marine science, resource management or related discipline.

An ideal candidate would have:

  • knowledge of fisheries management frameworks
  • experience as an analyst or advisor
  • Strong analytical skills and the capacity to quickly identify and clearly define an issue
  • Understanding of Government processes including Parliamentary processes
  • Previous experience establishing and effectively maintaining collaborative relationships with tangata whenua, stakeholders and Government agencies
