Job Description

We are currently looking for a Senior Adviser to join our Animal Exports Team and help the ministry to achieve its goal of “Growing and Protecting New Zealand”. The Animal Exports Team is responsible for the exports of live animals and their germplasm (semen and embryos).

 

As Senior Adviser, Animal Exports, you will help develop, implement and review export standards in accordance with international principles and standards, negotiate these standards internationally at a bilateral level, facilitate trade, be the primary point of contact for managing non-conforming consignments and other export issues, and participate in the maintenance and management of various export systems.

 

The primary sector is critical to New Zealand's growth and prosperity. There is increasing world demand for safe and sustainable primary products, and New Zealand is well placed to meet this demand by leveraging off its high quality and abundant natural resources.

 

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) works across all aspects of primary production from the top of our mountains to the bottom of our seas. Our Regulation and Assurance branch has primary responsibility for developing and reviewing import, export and domestic standards and systems for biosecurity, animal welfare and food safety.

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

 

• A veterinary qualification

• 2-5 year's relevant technical/professional experience

• Knowledge of/experience with international standards for animal health measures

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Ability to work under pressure and in conflict situations

• Understanding of the principles of quality systems and auditing

• Written and verbal communication and presentation skills

• Project planning and management skills

• Decision making skills

• Negotiation skills.

 

The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $95,000
