The Ministry for Primary Industries works to better support, connect and strengthen primary industries in order to grow and protect New Zealand for all. Our Compliance Services Directorate provides compliance services for MPI, administering the rules that protect New Zealand and ensuring our products are safe for all consumers.  The Food Compliance Services Group works across all food sectors from primary producers through to retailers and consumers to ensure food is safe and suitable.


As the Team Manager for the Central and South team you will be looking after a geographically dispersed team of 5 direct reports located in the lower North Island and across the South Island.  Reporting to the Manager Food Compliance, you will be responsible for ensuring that all reported breaches of the Food Act, Wine Act and parts of the Animal Products Act are identified, assessed and managed by the most appropriate intervention. You will lead a team of highly engaged and effective enforcement professionals in delivering the sector work priorities which are a mixture of responsive and project based work.


Key to your success will be your ability to work collaboratively, developing and maintaining successful relationships within MPI, and externally with industry, interest groups and other agencies.

This role offers variety and challenge and the work done by the team is a critical part of a reliable and credible food regulation system. 


Ideally you will have proven experience in leadership in a regulatory or investigative environment, knowledge of the food legislation and/or experience in the food sector.
