Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Adviser to join our Ministerial Services Team here at MPI. The Ministerial Services Team is at the centre of the relationship between MPI and its Ministers. The role is fixed term for twelve months.


The Senior Adviser will be responsible for managing the preparation of weekly reports to Ministers, MPI's engagement with Select Committees (including managing the twice-annual Select Committee accountability processes) and the Ministry's training programme in ministerial servicing. The Senior Adviser will also act as a deputy to the Team Leader in the management of this busy ministerial servicing function and the team, coaching and mentoring other members of the team as required and acting as Team Leader in the Team Leader's absence.


In this fast-paced environment, your work could involve any aspect of the Ministry's extensive work programme and you will need to be able to balance day-to-day demands with long-term objectives.


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Previous strong experience in a ministerial servicing role
  • Experience in working at senior levels in a team
  • An understanding of the role of ministerial servicing in the machinery of government, and of the relationship between Ministers and the public sector
  • A proven ability to deliver quality material on time
  • The ability to work well under pressure and to tight timeframes with a capacity to multi task effectively
  • The ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Creativity and an eagerness to explore and evaluate new operational delivery practices
  • Excellent relationship management and networking skills
