Job Description

  • Did you know that the primary sector employs one in seven New Zealanders and one in three in some regions?
  • Are you interested in working to ensure the primary sector can attract, train and retain the talented workforce it needs for the future?
  • Do you enjoy a role with variety?
  • MPI supports a range of flexible working options

 About the team

Our Skills and Regulatory Stewardship team sits within the Policy and Trade branch of MPI. Our team has the following key focusses:

  • Leading the development and delivery of a work programme to build the capability and capacity of the primary sector workforce
  • Ensuring regulatory processes across MPI are of sound quality and meet government requirements and expectations
  • Supporting the development of policy advisors within MPI and improving the quality of policy advice

About the role

We are currently looking for a Principal Advisor to join our team on a fixed term basis until 30 October 2019. Ideally, we are looking for someone with experience in education or employment policy to help us build the skilled primary industry workforce New Zealand needs for the future.

As an experienced thought-leader, you will develop and promote innovative and effective ideas to enhance the capability and capacity of the primary sector workforce. You will provide support to policy staff through coaching and peer review and lead inter-agency and cross agency engagement. You will be collaborative in style and have the ability to approach people, build relationships and work through others to get to where you and the team need to quickly.

Why and how to apply

This is a role with real variety and a range of activities to keep you busy and stimulated. Our team has a developing work programme and room to really add value across our branch, the Ministry and the broader public sector.
