Do you want to be at the forefront of an exciting programme of work that will transform how MPI delivers its fisheries management?

 

We have an great opportunity for a manager to develop and implement the technologies and change processes that comprise the Digital Monitoring programme.

 

This is a major programme of work under the banner of the Fisheries Change programme that will drive significant transformation in the fisheries sector, enhancing New Zealand's position as a world leader in fisheries management. This is a 2-year secondment or fixed-term opportunity for an experienced and motivated Level 4 manager.

 

About the role

You will take charge of leading the work to develop and implement the key technologies that comprise Digital Monitoring (electronic catch reporting, electronic position reporting, and cameras on boats should they be approved by Cabinet). This includes developing business requirements, liaising with technology developers and partners, operational and regulatory analysis, and leading the major change management activities to ensure that MPI incorporates these technologies and realises their benefits within our fisheries management, science and information, and compliance teams.

 

Skills and Experience

We are looking for a motivated and driven individual, with a track record of leading projects and achieving results. To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Be skilled at operating within a dynamic and fast-paced operating environment, whilst keeping your focus on the bigger picture
  • Be skilled in management and development
  • Keep cool under pressure, get through and deliver
  • Establish and manage relationships with Treaty partners and diverse stakeholders (both internal and external), navigating through competing interests and divergent agendas
  • Have knowledge of technology development processes, and experience leading technology implementation
  • Experience in developing and operationalising policy, in particular natural resources policy, and in dealing with Ministers would be a bonus for this role.

Fisheries New Zealand is focussed on managing New Zealand's valuable fisheries resources, and their place in the wider marine environment.  We are responsible for stewardship of the fisheries system, which includes both regulatory and operational functions, and delivery of our obligations to Māori.
