We have some exciting roles for talented, engaging, and constructive individuals. We are looking for Adviser/Senior Advisers, within the Plant Imports Group, in the Plants & Pathways Directorate.  We have roles in both the Horticulture Imports Team, and the Ornamental Plant Imports Team.  If you are successful, you will be appointed to one of these positions. The roles are responsible for managing the biosecurity risk to New Zealand through the development and review of import standards and requirements for goods entering NZ.

In these roles you will use your degree in plant pathology, entomology, plant biology (or related discipline) and experience operating in a regulatory environment.  You will also be able to demonstrate the practical application of:

  • Negotiating
  • Problem solving and a ‘can do' attitude

  • Knowledge/understanding of biological systems

MPI offers plenty of opportunity to grow professionally, technically and/or managerially, develop expertise in your field of interest, all while being supported by dedicated managers and colleagues who are keen to share their knowledge and experience.

The Ministry for Primary Industries is helping to seize export opportunities for our primary industries, improve sector productivity, ensure the food we produce is safe, increase sustainable resource use, and protect New Zealand from biological risk. MPI provides a range of services to ensure New Zealand is protected from biological risk and that the food New Zealand businesses produce is safe and suitable for us all to consume. MPI's services ensure that New Zealand's natural resources are sustainable while enabling the primary sector to innovate and grow the value of its exports. Our overall ambition is for New Zealand to be the most trusted source of high value natural products in the world. Join us to help this ambition become a reality.
