About our Team:

The Government Health and Safety Lead (GHSL) provides practical support to chief executives and senior leaders of government agencies to enable their personal leadership of health and safety for the benefit of all New Zealanders. We work with 37 public service and other government agencies to support sharing of proactive and joined up resources, strengthen system capability and build cross-system relationships.

 

About the Role:

The Senior Adviser Workforce Development is responsible for developing and leading workforce development initiatives targeted at building capacity and capability of health and safety professionals across the government sector.

You will be providing advice on workforce development matters to support the Government Health and Safety Lead in its function by supporting the strategic direction of the team and maintaining relationships with key partners across member agencies.

There are elements of Organisational Development to this position where you will be helping to develop a graduate development programme, intern programme and focusing on strengthening career pathways. You will be facilitating sessions, identifying common areas of development across the sector and improving the core performance standards of the public sector.

 

Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate for this position will have previous experience developing sector capability and leading initiatives to develop technical capability and capacity in Health and Safety or a similar technical field. You will be comfortable collaborating and consulting with multiple stakeholders and so you must have strong communication skills.

Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 or sector experience would be beneficial in this position as would experience developing and implementing people capability initiatives such as mentoring programmes or competency frameworks.

To be successful in this position you will need to demonstrate:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good stakeholder relationships through consultation and partnership
  • Strategic and future thinking to look ahead for potential issues and develop appropriate solutions
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Experience developing and implementing initiatives that require strong collaborating and consulting with multiple stakeholders
