FISHERIES ANALYST (DIGITAL MONITORING)

  • Permanent full-time opportunity
  • 3 x positions: located in Auckland (x1) / Nelson (x1) / Dunedin (x1) respectively
  • Salary band: $65k-$96k, dependant on skills and level of experience

What does a Fisheries Analyst (Digital Monitoring) do?

Are you motivated to work as part of a national team of analysts to produce targeted intelligence product to drive fisheries compliance?

The Fisheries Compliance Liaison and Coordination Team coordinate and conduct analysis of commercial fishing activity to target and direct MPI fisheries enforcement resources. Our new team of Digital Monitoring analysts will deliver high quality intelligence product and resources resulting from the introduction of a new commercial fishing reporting regime, as well as existing resources. The team utilises commercial sector fishing knowledge, classic intelligence and risk profiling skillsets as well as agile geospatial analysis and dashboard tools to:

  • develop predictive and targeted intelligence products;
  • produce risk profiles; and
  • inform decision makers on where to direct compliance response to target non-compliant activity.

The team also provide analysis and support to achieve MPI's objectives for domestic and international maritime surveillance, planning, at-sea boarding, and inspections.

The team of digital monitoring analysts is relatively new and still growing, with three new positions being created – one to be located in Auckland, one in Nelson and one in Dunedin. These three positions will strengthen the rest of the Wellington based FCLC team by enhancing regional focus and connectivity.

What are we looking for?

The successful candidate will

  • Have knowledge of and understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its importance in NZ Fisheries
  • Have sound and well developed analytical skills and an enquiring mind-set
  • Have experience in producing a range of profiling and intelligence products to inform decision makers
  • Have a working knowledge of compliance and the compliance delivery model
  • Be able to identify existing and emerging risks
  • Portray trends and patterns using sound analysis
  • Demonstrate ability to influence and persuade stakeholders to achieve results
  • Take an innovative approach to finding robust solutions to complex problems in short time frames
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have strong relationship management
  • Have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated and take initiative
  • Enjoy working with groups of people with diverse skill sets to solve complex problems and facilitate specific outcomes
  • Be a team player while being able to work autonomously
  • Have passion, motivation, a good attitude and sense of humour.

Other

A security clearance classification to the level of SECRET is required for this position. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain this clearance.
