Salary Band: between $150k and $200k depending on skills and experience

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
In this role your will support the Regional Commissioner to drive the region's strategic goals by supporting the Commissioner with external groups, stakeholders and other significant bodies to meet the objectives of MPI. You will actively contribute to development of strategic goals to achieve operational excellence and ensure a performance and reporting culture is in place across all business outcomes.
You will work collaboratively in facilitating and supporting change initiatives and increase capability across the group and wider directorate and ensure that agreed objectives are met. As part of this you will drive technical leadership and improved pathway verification in partnership with BCS Managers.
You will contribute to and actively role model the Ministry's purpose, strategy, and values. You will work across boundaries to promote a culture of collaboration throughout the directorate. You will utilise regular communication and engagement with other functions and Industry Partners, where required and take the lead on union engagement. In acting on agreed recommendations to enhance the operational effectiveness of the directorate you will ensure the operations within Border Clearance Services excel in the people space across, performance reviews, learning development plans assurance staff are skilled and competent to fulfil their obligations. This includes responsibility to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing system in the Northern region is strong, agile and robust.
Alongside this you will contribute to budget planning and reporting, ensuring cost centre budget is managed appropriately and team stays within resource and budget limits. You will manage all resources and outcomes within the function through the effective implementation of organisational processes and procedures (e.g. health and safety, recruitment, financial, planning, monitoring and measuring, reporting). You will contribute effectively to the operating model and ensure the deployment of people is effective and evidences a clear focus on biosecurity excellence.
You will be the go-to person in support of the Northern Regional Commissioner where required in wider MPI leadership areas such as contingency planning, Business Continuity Plans, building leadership capability and response and readiness leadership in partnership with other BNZ directorates. Part of this will also be supporting the Regional Commissioner to play a key role in influencing community outcomes within the cross-government Auckland Regional Leadership Group. This includes supporting the Regional Commissioner in the role of emergency planning and COVID 19 regional lead across the North Island.

Mōu - About You
You will have had previous experience of New Zealand government business environment, strategic priorities, and regulatory frameworks. You will be able demonstrate your expertise in the development and implementation of organisational strategies and plans. You will come with knowledge of the Biosecurity system and/or knowledge and experience of the National Security System and emergency response preparedness and management.
You will thrive in an environment where you need to make decisions with incomplete information and under tight deadlines and pressure. At the same time your will utilise your significant experience in developing and maintaining relationships and consultations with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders demonstrating excellent judgement and analytical skills.
