Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor
Based in Wellington
Salary Band: between $65k and $90k depending on skills and experience.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Your primary focus is to uplift health, safety and wellbeing capability and systems amongst Border Clearance Services standards and workplace practices, along with ensuring systems are in place to lead / coordinate and implement an improved approach to managing health and safety risks. You will assist with the development and implementation of effective health and safety practices in agreed areas to ensure legislative compliance and ensure standards and other documents produced by Border Clearance Services align with required health and safety practices. Utilising your professional experience you will develop collaborative working relationship across Border Clearance Services, Biosecurity New Zealand, MPI and external partners. You will actively promote positive wellbeing in the workplace including physical (Tinana), mental (Hinengaro), social (Whanau) and spiritual ( Wairua) and work collaboratively with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Directorate and Principal Advisors within BNZ and BCS for areas to develop further.
As you support and drive the health, safety and wellbeing programme, you will ensure synergies between national safety and wellbeing programmes across MPI led by the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Directorate, and the Health and Safety work in Border Clearance Services. You will analyse health, safety and wellbeing data and identify trends and risk areas and produce quality BCS Specific performance data that is taken from and aligned to the national system.

Mōu - About You
You will have an understanding of critical health and safety risk management that comes from a relevant tertiary qualification and/or at least 2 years' work experience in Health, Safety & Wellbeing. This includes a practical working knowledge of New Zealand Health & Safety legislation, and of good practice in health, safety and wellbeing. Your broad knowledge of risk management techniques relevant to health and safety will be evident from your experience of applying these in practical situations. Sound project management skills and the ability to multitask and manage time effectively are key to this role and your will be able to demonstrate your success along with your ability to communicate clearly and effectively (both orally and in writing) with a wide range of people in different situations, in order to explain, persuade, convince and influence others.
