Senior Adviser, Integrated Farm Planning at Ministry for Primary Industries, North Island

Salary band: $75,758 to $124,570 depending on skills and experience

We are looking for an experienced Senior Adviser to work in the sustainable land use area. Working across MPI, government and industry, you will be involved in work that support the uptake of Integrated Farm Planning (IFP) – a whole of system tool designed to support the primary sector respond to the challenges posed by climate change and regulatory reforms. As part of a team, you will be leading and guiding the Career Pathway Scheme for primary industry advisers. This is a key workstream in the IFP programme.
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
This is an opportunity to work in a high profile and challenging area. You will be developing and delivering initiatives that support the primary industry advisory services system to upskill and support the uptake of integrated farm planning.
As an experienced Senior Adviser, you will:
- Provide expert advice, shape, and deliver MPI and cross-government initiatives relating to primary industry advisory sector
- Develop and maintain effective external relationships across government agencies, sector groups and Māori
- Work closely with colleagues across MPI to ensure that the strategies, policies, systems and processes relating to integrated farm planning are developed and implemented in a way that supports and enables MPI's policy objectives.
The role can be based in Wellington or in one of our regional offices in the North Island.
Mōu - About You
You will ideally have:
- A tertiary level qualification relating to the primary sector and /or environmental policy with at least 5 years experience in a related field
- Experience and understanding of working with a cross section of stakeholders, often in politically sensitive environments
- Knowledge of MPI business environment, its strategic priorities, strengths and weaknesses
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills
- A strong track record of achievement of results
- A good understanding of and experience in tikanga Māori.
Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team
You will be working in the Sustainable Land Use team in the AIS Business Unit. The team is responsible for delivery of practical advice, information and tools for farmers and growers to improve their operations on the ground and support them to meet changing climate and regulatory requirements.
Manatū Ahu Matua - About MPI
MPI provides policy and regulatory advice, market access and trade services, and manages major regulatory systems of biosecurity, food safety, forestry, fisheries management, and animal welfare. MPI also has strong relationships with other government agencies, primarily within the economic, border, and natural resources sectors. With the New Zealand economy set to grow, MPI's important role in leading, regulating, and enabling the primary sectors will only increase.
