Joining the policy team at MPI will see you tackling some of New Zealand's biggest issues.
Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

Trustworthiness, integrity, intellectual horsepower, and passion and commitment to our jobs are vital components of the culture we want to retain and enhance within our division. We believe hard work, being able to celebrate success, and having access to the tools we need to do our jobs are core inputs for our high-performing team.
We have roles available on the following teams:
Biosecurity System Policy
Our biosecurity system ensures we all enjoy the benefits of trade and travel, while also managing the biosecurity risks from something or someone entering New Zealand. Biosecurity policy makes sure our biosecurity system manages that risk.
This team provides advice and strategic analysis to support the Minister, other parts of MPI, and other stakeholders to understand the interconnected parts of the biosecurity system and its relationships to other systems.
Biosecurity Partnerships Policy
The Biosecurity Partnerships Policy team leads strategic policy advice on biosecurity schemes and programmes delivered in partnership with industry, government departments such as the Department of Conservation and the Ministry for the Environment, and other key stakeholders.
Export Systems Policy
New Zealand's agricultural exports play an important role in the economy, food and fibre exports are expected to reach $49.1 billion in 2022. As such, continuing the high performance of our export system is an important part of MPI's role.
This team works collaboratively on two main projects to modernise New Zealand's regulatory system for primary product exports and to establish a new regulatory regime for organic food, beverage, plant and animal products.
Everyone working in the food industry has a responsibility to make sure that the food we buy is safe and suitable to eat. MPI is responsible for legislation that covers all aspects of food safety, including production, processing, transport and retailing.
