Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
The Ministry for Primary Industries' Plant Health and Environment Laboratory in Auckland has a fixed-term vacancy (3 years) for a Molecular scientist to validate and develop or improve diagnostic protocols and develop eDNA technique for surveillance program as part of a project team.
The salary range for this role is from $68,781 to $ 93,056 depending on skills, capabilities, and experience.
Mōu - About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Tertiary education, preferably post graduate qualification in the field of molecular biology;
- Experience in the field of molecular biology, ideally with diagnostic experience in Entomology;
- An advanced technical knowledge of laboratory and diagnostic methods (i.e. skills in development and validation of molecular assays, particularly primer design and real-time PCR assays);
- Experience in bioinformatic pipeline development and data analysis;
- Attention to detail and the ability to work well within a team to achieve excellent results within the agreed timeframe;
- Proven project and time management skills;
- Ability to form relationships and collaborations with external stakeholders; and
- Excellent communication skills, initiative, and sound judgement.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in development and validation of molecular assays, laboratory procedure development and review, proven planning and organisational skills, who are outcome focused, and have experience working within a containment laboratory and quality environment, e.g. ISO 17025.
