Role: Laboratory Technical Officer – Resources
Role Type: Full-time, fixed term until 30 June 2023
Location: Upper Hutt
Salary:$60,331 to $81,624 depending on skills and experience
In July 2017, the bacterial infection Mycoplasma bovis (M. bovis) was found in cattle in the South Island. With the support of farmers, industry bodies and local communities, MPI is working hard to locate the disease, contain it and eradicate it from New Zealand.
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
We are looking for a Laboratory Technical Officer (LTO) - Resources to join our team in our Animal Health Laboratory (AHL) based in Wallaceville, Wellington to focus on this response. This is a crucial role and we are seeking applicants who are wanting to be part of a highly dedicated team working to protect our country and its resources.
The purpose of the LTO - Resources is to effectively and efficiently support the needs of the Laboratory, thus facilitating timely ordering and stock management of laboratory supplies. The LTO - Resources role also includes providing support to the operation of Specimen Reception with receiving and accessioning of M. bovis samples. This role reports to the M. bovis Information Manager (or their delegate).
In this role you will be contributing to the effective operation of AHL in meeting the needs of the M. bovis response.
- Purchasing laboratory supplies
- Dealing with enquiries from internal and external customers that relate to procurement, stock management and/or laboratory equipment.
- Receiving and distributing AHL inwards goods
- Stock management of laboratory supplies
- Receiving and accessioning of M. bovis samples
- Accurately capturing data in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
Mōu - About You
Our ideal candidate for this role will have:
- Working knowledge of stock management
- Preferably experience in laboratory processes and procedures
- Proven planning, co-ordination and organisation skills
- Ability to keep calm under pressure
- Highly effective relationship management
- Effective communication
