Senior Adviser Quality Assurance at Ministry for Primary Industries, Auckland City

The Ministry for Primary Industries has an exciting opportunity for a full-time, permanent Senior Adviser – Quality Assurance to join the Assurance, Biosafety and Containment Team at MPI's Plant Health and Environment Laboratory (PHEL) in Auckland. 

We are seeking a Senior Adviser – Quality Assurance to join our multi-disciplinary team and lead PHEL's extensive Quality Management System. You'll oversee, maintain, report on and facilitate the continued accreditation to ISO 17025 and compliance to relevant Acts, standards and procedures. The role would suit applicants with a background working in laboratories accredited to ISO:17025 and with strong Quality Assurance experience. You will be an excellent team player, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams, excellent attention to detail, a highly effective communicator and influencer, and adaptable and calm under pressure. 

 

Mōu - About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary or equivalent qualifications in a related field (e.g., biological science), preferably post-graduate.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality focus
  • Comprehensive understanding of quality management systems, quality standards and Acts, including ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.
  • Experience in quality systems development, implementation, and improvement in laboratory settings.
  • Mentoring and guiding others in the development and implementation of quality systems.
  • Ability to think ahead and contribute effectively to the annual quality assurance planning cycle.
  • Ability to lead complex projects.
  • Experience in managing relationships and consultation with internal and external stakeholders. 

 

Mō te peka - About the Branch

The Plant Health and Environment Laboratory (PHEL) operates at two sites, the main laboratory being in Auckland and with a small team in Christchurch. PHEL is New Zealand's reference laboratory for exotic, new and emerging plant & environment pest and diseases and contains both PC2 and PC3 laboratory facilities and level 3b Glasshouses. PHEL is accredited to ISO:17025. The Assurance, Biosafety and Containment Team is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for a range of operational systems that ensure a safe operating environment and compliance to the required regulations and standards.
