Analyst Sector Insights at Ministry for Primary Industries, Wellington City

Role Type: Permanent full-time

Location: Wellington

Salary Band: $68,781 to $93,056 depending on skills and experience 

The Ministry for Primary Industries are currently recruiting for two Analysts to join our Forestry Insights directorate, which forms part of our wider Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service business unit based in Wellington.

 

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role

As an Analyst (Sector Insights), you will support the development of forestry and wood processing insights which will allow informed decisions to be made around forestry strategy and policy. Forestry involves a complex supply chain. We are looking for candidates with the ability and desire to understand and create insights into a range of topics including woody biomass for alternative uses, the nursery sector, and wood processing. There are many other topics that need insightful analysis to deliver on government objectives.

You will also support the development of work programmes to ensure delivery of long-term forestry and wood processing plans at both a regional and national level.

Additional key responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Identifying data from a variety of sources and providing analysis and insights
  • Collaborating with data custodians within Te Uru Rākau (TUR) to obtain deeper understanding of specific data and insights requirements
  • Connecting with MPI teams, and Natural Resources Cluster agencies to understand their data and information needs related to TUR managed forestry datasets
  • Working with the Data Analysis and Research functions to map data and insights needed to address future questions

 

Mōu - About You

To be successful in this role, you will relevant experience including business analysis and reporting knowledge within a similar role in a large and complex organisation.

You will have the ability to analyse, interpret, and then report complex data sets, and by extension, show excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

You will be able to connect data and information across a range of topics to produce new ways of understanding and evidencing opportunities and issues.

Importantly, you will have strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information effectively to a wide range of stakeholders, be able to develop and maintain effective relationships and credibility and have a high degree of initiative and prioritisation skills.
