Business Analyst at Ministry for Primary Industries, Wellington City

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Job Title: Business Analyst/Senior Business Analyst

Role type: Full Time, Fixed Term Position (Maternity Cover)

Location: Wellington City

Salary range: $60,331 to $108,321 depending on skills and experience

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

This is an exciting time to join the New Zealand Food Safety business unit where you can exhibit your passion and skills to improve the existing systems to achieve high-quality and data driven results. These roles will focus on deriving value from our data - from collating, to analysis and to presenting. This hugely important role will help drive the decision making across NZFS and help identify and support new high value projects. The duration will be 12 months.

As a visual narrator, you can showcase derived information and insights in clear and compelling visual formats, e.g., dashboards and other infographics, providing enduring value for risk managers and decision makers.

You will have opportunities to initiate and improve processes that would add value to both the Food Regulation directorate and across the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).

You will encounter exciting opportunities, providing you the platform to interact with food businesses, industry representatives and other agencies in the regulatory system, and gather valuable insights to deliver the organisational goals.

You will become a part of the ‘budding community of practice for analysts' which is mainly focused on facilitating professional development opportunities for our analysts, exploring collaborative work prospects, and building capability across the directorate.

Mōu - About You

We are looking for experienced analyst who enjoy using insights and information to tell stories and can help bring the stories to life using useful and easy to understand visuals.

In addition, we are looking for someone that:

  • Can demonstrate creative thinking and a willingness to support new or improved approaches to solving business problems
  • Is confident in identifying and exploring opportunities for service and business improvement
  • Has proven experience in absorbing technical information and presenting it in a clear and concise manner to a non-technical audience
  • Has experience in using the information gathered to design surveys and provide monitoring reports.
  • Can translate information from Subject Matter Experts and others into automated processes, tools, and templates that are appropriate and fit-for-purpose for the specific audience

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team

New Zealand food businesses are diverse - not only in what they make or do and how they make or do it – but also in the value they derive from their food. Food safety regulation is changing, not just in New Zealand but around the world. It is increasingly less about setting rigid rules, and more about providing systems and services that enable businesses to find their own ways to meet easy to understand food safety and suitability outcomes.

The primary functions of New Zealand Food Safety's (NZFS) Food Regulation directorate are setting the bar, helping people meet the bar and enhancing the food safety system.

The work we do strongly contributes to our country's public health, economic, and wellbeing outcomes. We ensure that food is safe and suitable, consumers globally can trust food produced in New Zealand and make informed choices, food businesses can thrive and innovate within a fit-for-purpose regulatory framework, and overseas governments can have a high level of confidence and trust in our export assurances.
