The Ministry for Primary Industries are currently recruiting for an Adviser (Strategy, Transformation, & Māori Partnership) to join our Strategy, Enablement, & Māori Partnership directorate, which forms part of our wider Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service business unit based in Wellington.
Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service has embarked on a multi-year programme to strengthen and deepen the provision of planning and advice to the Forestry sector and landowners. This Service will take a strategic national view of forests, forestry, and wood processing and use that to provide advice to optimise the sector, maximise the benefits of our forests, and support sustainable land management practice.
The Advisor (Strategy, Transformation & Planning) provides business analysis and advice to the Branch leadership team and assists with planning and governance functions across the branch. They will develop process and systems to deliver actionable business advice to the Branch and Directorates.
The role will support the wider team in business planning, strategy development, and meeting the developing needs of managing Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service.
This role will be part of a small team which includes the strategy and transformation functions of Te Uru Rākau, and will work closely with the Branch Leadership Team, Managers, and staff across the Branch, as well as MPI's central strategy, reporting and ministerial servicing functions.

You will have an inquisitive mind and ability to turn data into useful insights for leadership action.
You will be comfortable working with senior leaders and managers to determine how to best support them in making business decisions. You will be comfortable working on multiple reporting activities and in managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Other key capabilities we are looking for include:
- A good understanding of statistical analysis techniques and tools.
- Experience in public sector reporting and in business reporting is desirable.
