Senior Advisor -Biosecurity Response at Ministry for Primary Industries, Wellington City

Role type: Permanent, Full-Time

Location: Wellington preferred

Salary range: $78,817 – $108,321 depending on skills and experience

 

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Adviser, who is passionate about biosecurity, can provide well-reasoned advice from proven experience, and can contribute to, manage and deliver biosecurity responses to achieve agreed response objectives.

In addition to delivering within complex biosecurity responses, you will actively contribute to response readiness, contribute to Response Group work plans, and work collaboratively across boundaries to provide high quality advice on a range of activities, products, and initiatives to improve MPI's response performance.

The Response work programme involves engaging with Treaty partners, other government agencies, key Government Industry Agreement partners, and contracted providers of field services.  You will contribute to the realisation of the Readiness and Response strategy, team outcomes, and be involved in work related to continual improvement across the Readiness and Response Services Directorate.

 

Mōu - About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Suitable qualification in a relevant biological science discipline with a graduate qualification in plant pathology, animal health or veterinary medicine being preferred
  • Ability to deliver on work priorities
  • Ability to work in ambiguous work environments
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to be resilient, adaptable, and effective in high-pressure situations

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team

Readiness and Response Services is a directorate that sits within Biosecurity New Zealand and is responsible for bringing together critical capability to effectively prepare for, and manage responses, and to co-ordinate recovery and long-term management activities, as well as compensation resulting from actions taken to manage biosecurity incursions to those economically impacted. As a directorate we work across biosecurity, food, primary production and trade systems.

The Biosecurity Response Teams deal with incursions of new-to-New Zealand organisms and diseases that could threaten New Zealand's economy, environment, social and cultural values, and human health.
