Target Developer at Ministry for Primary Industries, National

Job Title:  Target Developer

Role type: Permanent

Location: National (preferably Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch)

Salary range: $68,781 to $80,918 depending on skills and experience

 

Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role

As a Target Developer you will play a crucial role in protecting the biosecurity of New Zealand by ensuring biosecurity and food safety targeting profiles are accurate and robust for imported cargo. You will create, maintain and monitor MPI targeting profiles in the national biosecurity and food safety targeting system. Target Developers provide recommendations to evaluate and operationalise information and intelligence provided by a wide range of groups across MPI.

This position is in the Intelligence and Targeting Team whose primary role is to provide intelligence reporting to key stakeholders and the wider border sector. This role is part of the wider Intelligence, Targeting and Evaluation Group.

As the successful applicant, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate and operationalise information and intelligence received from various groups across MPI.
  • Carry out timely testing, deployment, and maintenance of targeting profiles.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of targeting processes and systems.
  • Provide credible specialist advice, both verbal and written, to support projects, improve standards, or identify risks to the business.
  • Maintain relationships with MPI and interagency project teams, including with external stakeholders.

 

Mōu - About You

We are looking for someone who works collaboratively, with an analytical and quality focus to join a small team in an evolving role providing targeting capability for MPI Biosecurity and Food safety.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of the biosecurity operational environment and biosecurity systems.
  • Experience using rule-based applications, computer programming and database reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proven ability to deliver quality advice, guidance and material on time.
  • A strong work ethic coupled with a sense of self-motivation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong, working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide solutions-focused results to problems and challenges in an ambiguous environment.

At Biosecurity New Zealand, our focus is on stopping unwanted pests and diseases at the border, before they get to New Zealand, and eradicating or managing the impact of those already here. With the help of New Zealanders, we ensure our unique environments, and the value of our primary industries are maintained.

We are a small, dedicated team currently based in Auckland and form part of the Intelligence, Targeting and Evaluation Group. We provide an important role in identifying and managing risk at the border and support targeting capability across the wider MPI  business groups in Biosecurity and Food Safety New Zealand.
