Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
The purpose of this role within New Zealand Food Safety Verification Services is to provide a range of food safety, animal welfare and biosecurity verification and certification services based at meat exporting plants. To support the meat industry and New Zealand's reputation in the world red meat market for the product produced and to ensure food safety and export standards are being followed by the plant.
This is a part-time position covering a processing plant – Crusader Meats Benneydale which is located south east of Te Kuiti in Benneydale. Part-time hours for this role involve working 2 days a week (Thursday and Friday – however this can be discussed depending on applicant's availability), with 10 hour shifts per day. Day shift operations are from 6.00 am to 4.30pm (This will include 1.5h of overtime during the peak of the season). A work vehicle is also provided for this role to travel to and from the plant location – please note that this not for personal use.
The role is varied, and you will be expected to do the following:
- Collaborate well with internal and external stakeholders, such as meat works personnel, Veterinary colleagues/VS team.
- Verify that requirements and procedures are being followed.
- Provide certification for animal meat exports
- Complete ante mortem inspections and occasionally provide judgement on post-mortem inspection
- Maintain knowledge within the farming communities and be involved in on farm verification
- Ensure animal welfare is being maintained
You will receive six to eight weeks of full-time technical training prior to being warranted under the relevant legislation. We have ongoing, on-site training, mentoring and technical support for you in your new role.
Mōu - About You
The successful candidate will:
- Be a New Zealand registered Veterinarian (Or be able to obtain registration with VCNZ)
- Have verbal and written skills, and analytical reasoning skills
- Demonstrate integrity and trust, ethics and values, resilience, adaptability, and openness
- Verify that requirements and procedures are being followed.
- Have experience persuading and influencing, teamwork, planning and organising
- Have computer literacy – can operate standard and customised software to an acceptable standard including word-processing, excel, internet, email
- It is advantageous if you have knowledge of HACCP/Quality Assurance in Food Safety however, this is included in your training.

Benneydale is a small town in the Waitomo District. Located in the heart of the King Country in the Central North Island, approximately 3 hours from Auckland and 4 hours from Wellington, between Lake Taupo and Te Kuiti, lies the tranquil town of Benneydale.
Situated in temperate Benneydale New Zealand, Crusader Meats is in a prime position to source only the best from its loyal farmer base both locally and in surrounding North Island regions. This ensures international markets are supplied year-round.
This role will support an experienced veterinarian who works at Crusader Meats Benneydale to ensure that day shift operations are covered during plant processing hours.
