Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Job Title: Principal Advisor, Aquaculture
Role type: Permanent Fulltime
Location: Nelson or Wellington
Salary range: $113,626 to $152,318 depending on skills and experience
Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
The Principal Advisor Aquaculture will lead, deliver and support the implementation of the critical foundations that underpin delivery of the Māori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act 2004. This is Aotearoa/New Zealand's only prospective settlement and provides a unique opportunity to work on setting and evolving aquaculture settlement inputs to support Māori to become a key part of our future sustainable aquaculture growth.
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a role where you will be providing high quality advice, leadership and delivery of the Government's 2019 Aquaculture Strategy, and in particular supporting iwi aspirations through delivery of the Māori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act.
This role will lead the critical inputs that enable settlement delivery. You will have responsibility for:
- critical analysis of options to improve delivery of the prospective aquaculture settlement in the context of a fast evolving sector
- updating forecasting and valuation models for aquaculture growth
- maintaining and updating the Crown's settlement approach through the New Space Plan
- Supporting regional aquaculture settlement negotiations and providing oversight to ensure the Crown is meeting its obligations.
A key part of this position is the development of strong, professional relationships with key internal stakeholders, treaty partners, industry and Te Ohu Kaimoana (as the settlement trustee) to support achievement of our objectives.
Mōu - About You
You may be an experienced senior advisor, existing principal advisor, or thought leader in your field looking for your next challenge. Critical for this role will be experience in translating, embedding and maintaining legislative requirements through operational deliverables. You'll be a strategic thinker with a strong analytical focus who can understand and maintain existing approaches to forecasting and valuation modelling. You can effectively plan and execute work to deadlines and manage competing priorities across a diverse work programme.
This position involves extensive relationship building with internal and external partners, so you'll need a natural ability to build and nurture key relationships. You'll have strong written and verbal communication skills and are able to effectively communicate to a broad range of partners in plain language.
You do not need to meet all the role requirements to apply. We offer a breadth of development and learning opportunities and will welcome an application if you think you bring transferable skills from your previous experience.
