Salary band & range: General Salary Range D - $100,934 to $118,005 depending on skills and experience

 

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

The Senior Adviser, Health, Safety & Wellbeing, is a key member of the Border Clearance Services team within Biosecurity New Zealand. In this role, you will provide expert advice and support to promote a consistent, effective, and sustainable approach to operational health and safety management.

Your primary focus will be to collaborate with the Border Clearance Services Managers to strengthen health, safety, and wellbeing capabilities and systems. You will play a pivotal role in aligning workplace practices with Border Clearance Services standards, while ensuring robust systems are in place to lead, coordinate, and implement enhanced strategies for managing health and safety risks.

Travel will also be required to be undertaken as part of this role and you must have a full clean drivers licence.

 

About You - Mōu

This is a hands-on operational role, requiring a minimum of five years' experience in health and safety within a medium to large operational organisation. Ideally, you will also bring knowledge of New Zealand government regulatory frameworks and experience working in operational environments.

You will have a proven track record in project management and in delivering health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives. Your strong oral and written communication skills, along with your ability to present effectively, will support your capability to manage, coordinate, and enhance collaborative work processes.

You will be known for your initiative, technical expertise, and sound judgement, you thrive in fast-paced environments and can successfully manage multiple priorities. Your resilience enables you to perform under pressure, anticipate challenges, and apply risk management principles to resolve issues proactively.

 

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū

The role is part of the Biosecurity Central/South Team within the Border Clearance Services (BCS) directorate of Biosecurity New Zealand. BCS is accountable for ensuring the delivery of sustainable and effective frontline biosecurity clearance services at the border for imported goods, craft, mail, passengers, crew and Transitional Facilities.
